2002 PDQ Antares

Annapolis, Maryland, United States

US$398,000

The PDQ Antares is a catamaran designed and built for owners - not for large charter groups! This focus is reflected throughout the interior allowing extravagant accommodations for owners and guests as well as an ability to carry provisions, spares and equipment for very extended cruising.

The construction of the Antares is highly regarded throughout the industry as is her comfortably balanced performance. While heading to New England the owners of “KAVU” report doing 18 knots with the spinnaker set while preparing a delicious dinner for just the two of them. The sound of wind and wave were the only sounds that accompanied them as they rushed toward their destination in the hands of the autopilot.

Built in Canada to exceptionally high specifications the PDQ Antares will take you wherever you wish to go in safety and comfort. The PDQ Antares 44 is her sister ship, with the only difference being an extension of the stairs/swim platform and a change to the aft end of the salon.

KAVU has been a very well loved yacht and is being sold only because there is no place to sail her in Colorado.

A strong, capable, yacht and a tremendous value at this asking price!

VESSEL WALKTHROUGH

Kavu has three staterooms and one head with a large separate shower. In lieu of a second head, the owners opted for a large work room on the port side (this could easily be converted back to a second head). Exquisite teak-and-holly sole throughout the yacht is protected by cut-to-fit removable carpeting that complements the woodwork finishing. Massive amounts of space make it easy to live aboard or just get away from it all for long stretches of time. And bright natural light pouring in the multitude of cabin windows, hatches and opening portlights make the interior of this yacht so cheery and comfortable that those stretches of time will pass by breezily. A forced-air diesel heater plumbed throughout keeps the entire boat warm on chilly nights, and dedicated air conditioners enable you to keep cool only those cabins you use.

  • Webasto AT5000 18,800-BTU forced-air diesel heater
  • Updated removable carpet over teak-and-holly sole
  • LED down-lighting at floor level and on interior steps
MASTER STATEROOM

Aft on the starboard side is the spacious owner’s suite. How spacious? How about legitimate 6-foot, 5-inch-plus standing headroom, along with a large aft-facing hatch and two big opening portlights outboard for tons of natural light spacious? There’s a full-sized queen bed featuring a Select Comfort mattress (so you can choose your own firmness setting) with coils underneath for ventilation and comfort. Tons of room with two lined, walk-in closets and more than half a dozen other lined closets, four drawers, and plenty of other storage.

  • Small settee at the foot of the bed
  • Webasto reverse-cycle air conditioner
  • Two reading lamps
  • Overhead LED lights
  • 12-volt fan
  • USB and 110v outlets
HEAD

Forward of the master stateroom is the head with just as much headroom as the stateroom. The head features a separate, one-piece, walk-in shower with a clear glass door. The shower is so big it has a towel hanger INSIDE the shower (it’s a shower big enough for two). There’s an electric, Vacuflush toilet — a Tankwatch tank monitor — that uses fresh water so there’s no odor. A Corian countertop surrounds the stainless-steel sink. You can use the huge mirror (with oversized, shelved storage behind it) thanks to the bright light pouring in the overhead Bomar hatch and the opening portlight outboard.

  • Sealand Vacuflush head
  • Sealand Tankwatch 4-Level monitor system
SALON

This is more like a living room than the salon on a boat. There’s a settee that seats seven around a large dining table that has folding corners to make it even larger. A broad desk serves as navigation station or work space, whichever you prefer (or both). There’s a cocktail bar with a dedicated sink and storage, and an entertainment center that rivals anything on land, complete with flat-screen TV and surround-sound stereo components (including a subwoofer).

  • Cruisair reverse-cycle air conditioner
  • Samsung flat-screen, 43-inch TV
  • Surround stereo w/ Denon AV amplifier, three speakers and subwoofer
  • Weems & Plath clock and barometer
  • New salon cushions
GALLEY

Just two easy steps to port of the salon is a legitimately house-sized kitchen. A large-capacity fridge and oven, top-loading freezer, two deep stainless-steel sinks and massive storage in 10 cabinets and drawers make this a gourmet chef’s dream. It’s bright and cheery in the galley thanks to all the natural light pouring in from the salon and the opening portlight outboard. A convenient pass-through to the salon keeps the cook part of the social life.

  • Corian countertops with stainless backsplash
  • 2: Waeco Adler/Barber Cold Machine
  • Upgraded Seaward gourmet 3-burner gas stove
  • Upgraded Delonghi built-in wall oven
  • Kenmore Microwave
SECOND CABIN

Aft of the galley is the second large cabin, also boasting a queen-sized mattress (this one athwartship) with ventilation coils underneath. Like the master suite, this cabin has 6’5” headroom and lots of natural light pouring in an aft hatch and two opening portlights. There’s a large, lined hanging closet, as well as several smaller cabinets and shelves beneath the berth. Shelves and a nightstand make it easy to make this cabin a home.

  • Mermaid Marine reverse-cycle air conditioner
  • Two reading lamps
  • Overhead LED lights
  • 12-volt fan
  • 110v outlets
THIRD CABIN

Forward of the galley is another cabin, also with a queen-sized mattress and ventilation coils. This berth is raised up a bit so there’s a small foot-ladder for access. An overhead Bomar hatch and yet another opening portlight provide lots of natural light, and there are lined closets and sliding drawers for storage. There’s also a fold-down seat built into the hull.

  • Cruisair reverse-cycle air conditioner
  • Two reading lamps
  • Overhead fluorescent light
  • 12-volt fan

WORK SPACE

In lieu of a second head forward of the third cabin, the owners opted for a work and storage space, something liveaboards and long-term cruisers always crave. This walk-in space has a rubber floor for traction and extensive shelving that could easily be home to a vise or heavy-duty power tools. There is a ton of storage in cabinets, drawers and on shelves, and power is supplied via 110- and 12-volt outlets. There’s also a hatch from the foredeck that not only provides light (along with another opening portlight outboard), but also serves as access to the sail locker, which is forward of the work space. Install a sewing machine in the work space and you could do all your sail repairs yourself.

TOPSIDES

Kavu’s topsides make her a fun-lover’s paradise. Huge spaces on the foredeck (and the trampolines between the two hulls) are great for sunbathing. Two huge, climb-in lockers (one amidships at the base of the mast, one in the bow of the starboard hull) with built-in ladders hold ridiculous amounts (and also house the windlass and generator, respectively). And the cockpit features two settees around an oval dining table — right next to the helm station with its movable bench seating. Zip-in Sunbrella panels with super-clear panels for visibility and light turn the cockpit and helm into a nice, cozy space in inclement weather. And the ridiculous amounts of storage in the cockpit and at the aft end of both hulls mean you can carry all the toys you can think of — and enjoy easy access to them so you’ll actually use them. Davits between the two sterns make hoisting and securing the dinghy a snap.
