1972 Irwin 37

Bayfield, Wisconsin, United States

US$24,000

Designed by Ted Irwin, this Irwin 37 design was first introduced in 1971 and ran through 1975 and it is believed that some 600 hulls were produced.  Easily sailed by two people, the helm rests in the self-bailing center cockpit where all sail handling lines lead, so there is no need to go forward to trim sails. The intent of the boat is to be sailed short-handed, is a good offshore boat that behaves and  is large enough to live aboard. The ample beam and ballast in the keel provide a stable and safe ride. The sitting in the cockpit is 6’4” long, so sleeping on a warm night is a possibility.  The cockpit has high, comfortable back rests which also offer a sense of security. You step into the cockpit through a starboard opening which is 10 inches above the cockpit floor at the bottom and has a flush locker that is scuppered  so water ships outboard. The deck, cockpit and hull are made from one-piece molds and a molded in nonskid is evident in strategic areas.  The deck hatches and companionway hatch are designed to withstand 750 pounds. There’s a tapered bulwark that ends at the cockpit and protects the foredeck.  Down below there is a dinette to accommodate six. Lower the table for cocktails, or raise it for meal time. There is 6’2” headroom throughout and many individual work areas and a main salon suitable for entertaining. The mid ship cockpit provides for a huge aft stateroom. The galley is designed for cooking with large enough areas to prepare a decent meal.  All sails are in serviceable condition.  This is a big, safe, shoal drafted boat with a lifetime of gear, manuals, books, tools and parts.
