1983 Shannon 50

St Augustine, Florida, United States

Every once and a while a boat comes along that’s truly a “Sail Away” boat. CELEBRATION is just that boat. The owner spent years refitting mega yachts as a profession. He began an extensive refit to CELEBRATION the day he bought her.

The current owner is the third owner and in 1994 he bought CELEBRATION and immediately took her to Quality Yachts in Tiverton RI to begin the refit. The boat was completely disassembled; every piece of metal came off the boat and was cleaned or replaced and re-bedded. The entire boat was rewired, tanks were repaired and/or replaced, spars removed cleaned and painted, hull peeled, all thru hulls replaced with new roller furling, an electric bow thruster added, the hull painted, sails replaced, electric distribution panels were replaced and they went sailing.

In 2003/04 all teak was replaced, cap rail, cockpit coamings, sail tracks, teak strips on hatches, hatches all cleaned and re-bedded, capstan rebuilt. In 2007 the entire boat was re-plumbed, all new instruments added, 2 VHF radios were replaced, air horn added, along with davits, RIB and outboard. The beautiful hand laid porcelain tile was added in both heads. Along the way the refrigeration system was converted to 110v, a new compressor installed in 2012, and an 8Kw generator was added. The entire boat is air conditioned with two 16,000 BTU units installed in 2010/11 and, for the cold nights, an Espar heater with plenty of power to take the chill off was installed. All batteries are just two years old. When I walked through the boat for the first time I was very impressed, right down to the storage on board that has all been modified and relined with cedar for the over the top custom treatment.

You owe it to yourself to inspect this vessel if you are a serious cruiser, this one won’t disappoint!

This beautiful 3 cabin boat is finished in teak and American white oak. The joinery is superb as you would expect from Shannon. Descending the companionway you enter the master cabin with large double to starboard and large outboard facing navigation station to port. The custom seat is removable with storage under. A large head with separate shower just forward of the Nav station with opening port and good maneuvering room. The master cabin has plenty of storage and all lockers have been refinished to maximize interior space.

The guest cabin is next to port with single over/under berths. The galley is immediately to starboard. With a Herreshoff look the galley is large and accommodating. Plenty of room to prepare meals and serve from. Plenty of opening hatches throughout and good natural light. Just forward on starboard is the U shaped main salon table with seating for a crowd and two large oversized built in chairs with custom table dividing them to port. Outboard on both port and starboard are deep storage cabinets with vented doors. Leaving the salon and immediately on the port is the first door to the forward head and shower. Further forward to port is a second door into the head for the forward guest cabins. To starboard, the  forward shower has been converted into a large hanging locker lined with cedar. The V berth forward is large and inviting with storage shelves outboard. There is access into the chain locker from the V berth.
